The city: Chicago. The year: 1929. Joe and Jerry (Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon), two penniless musicians, accidentally witness a mob hit and are forced to flee for their lives. Their solution is simple: disguise themselves as women, become Josephine and Daphne, and join an all-female band headed for Miami. But the plan gets complicated when they meet Sugar Kane (Marilyn Monroe), the band’s beautiful singer, and find themselves caught in a whirlwind of courtship, lies and shifting identities. Billy Wilder turns this game of disguise into a wild comedy of desire, money and gender. The wonderful chemistry between Curtis, Lemmon and Monroe, the breakneck pace and razor-sharp dialogue have made the film one of the high points of Wilder’s career and one of the most beloved comedies in cinema history.
